It\u2019s easy to come up with a list of great leaders, isn\u2019t it? Warren Buffett. Bill Gates. Jeff Bezos. Martin Luther King, Jr. Nelson Mandela are to name a few. And, just for good measure and to swing the gender balance a bit, let\u2019s add in Angela Merkel.<\/p>\n

What a mixed bag I\u2019ve chosen, right? I\u2019m sure you can think of more!<\/p>\n

However, the point is, the named leavers are all well-known for their distinctive\u00a0leadership abilities. So, what actually makes a good leader and how can you incorporate the leadership attributes with your attitude that propels your wedding business?<\/p>\n

Ask yourself a small question, do all businesses, large and small, need great leaders? Of course. No-brainer, right?<\/p>\n

One of the things I\u2019ve observed about every single name on my \u2018great leaders’ list is that others\u00a0wanted to be led<\/em>\u00a0by these individuals.<\/p>\n

Now the question is what are the factors that made them such great leaders? I\u2019ll venture to say that natural ability has shaped their leadership style\u2014and their charismatic personality added more to their quality. But do you think that all had happened to them in a single day? One day all of them suddenly woke up and knew exactly how to lead the rest of the world?<\/p>\n

No, probably not! They worked on it. In their attempts and hard work, \u00a0there was plenty of trial and error. And then they likely had three attributes that I think helped them succeed:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Passion.<\/li>\n
  2. Vision<\/li>\n
  3. The ability to empower others.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    We\u2019ll discuss all three in just a second. First, though, I wanted to insert some real-life examples.<\/p>\n

    In writing this post, I leaned on a friend\u2019s help. I asked my friend, if she has a boss who\u2019s a good leader\u2014and I\u2019ll be honest. I sort of anticipated her answer.<\/p>\n

    She laughed and said, \u201cWell, in my current job, my boss doesn\u2019t listen, doesn\u2019t seem to care about me, and micromanages everything I do.\u201d<\/p>\n

    Yeah. There are so many of such \u2018leaders\u2019 around, aren\u2019t there?<\/p>\n

    And after hearing my friend\u2019s reply it is needless to say that my friend is looking for another job.<\/p>\n

    However, I know someone else who had won the boss lottery. When I asked this friend the same thing about his boss, he gushed and said, \u201cMy boss is so excited about coming to work every day, and it\u2019s totally infectious. He has a vision for our sales department and all of us want to do our best for him.\u201d<\/p>\n

    He went on to say that he could work for the same boss for the rest of his life and be forever happy.<\/p>\n

    So, the question here is how can you ensure that you\u2019re doing\u00a0that<\/em>\u00a0for your employees? Or do you know in your heart of hearts that your employees and your\u00a0business are running you<\/a>, not the other way around?<\/p>\n

    The best thing about learning how to lead is that you\u00a0can learn how to lead<\/em>. A quick Google or Amazon search can show you that\u2014it\u2019s undoubtedly a multimillion dollar industry!<\/p>\n

    Pick up a book about leadership (there are so many different philosophies on leadership, too) and get to reading\u2019.<\/p>\n

    #1 \u2013 Passion<\/strong><\/p>\n

    So, let\u2019s go back to our list. Are you leading with passion?<\/p>\n

    How do you know? Well, are you excited about going to work every day? Are you more than thrilled to work on a\u00a0Saturday?<\/em><\/p>\n

    Believe me, your employees can detect all these qualities whether you have the passion for your wedding business\u2014and can figure it out, too, if you\u2019re just going through the motions.<\/p>\n

    If you\u2019re not loving it, you can\u2019t lead effectively.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

    #2 \u2013 Vision<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Vision is another one of those biggies. Do you have big plans for your wedding business? No \u201cbig\u201d plans? Do you at least have a vision that will hold steady through the end of the week?<\/p>\n

    Keep in mind that if you don\u2019t have goals, you\u2019re floundering. And if you don\u2019t have benchmarks, then you seriously need them.<\/p>\n

    It\u2019s just like you have goals for your life, such as, \u201cI want to celebrate my 10-year anniversary of my wedding business by taking all of my employees to Mexico, so I will need to do X, Y, and Z to make that happen.\u201d<\/p>\n

    For a successful wedding business you should also need specific goals that would drive you towards triumph.<\/p>\n

    Such things might seem to be elementary, but it is crucial, especially for small businesses.<\/p>\n

    By the way, wouldn\u2019t your employees all love you then? Mexico, it is! Ha!<\/p>\n

    #3 \u2013 Empowering Others<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Remember my friend whose boss is a major micromanager? (Yeah, don\u2019t be like that.)<\/p>\n

    Believe it or not, even if you are the CEO of your wedding business, leading isn\u2019t about you. It\u2019s about others.<\/p>\n

    If that\u2019s a revelation to you, then you should do the reality check! It\u2019s really, really true.<\/p>\n
